GF piping systems can help to reduce energy costs in your data centers cooling plant. GF Piping Systems plastic piping system can improve the energy transfer in your hydronic piping systmes by up to 25 percent, compared to traditional metallic, post-insulated piping. The inherent lower thermal conductivity of plastic pipes, combined together with the pre-insulated system option of COOL-FIT, where insulation of the pipe and fittings is performed under controlled factory conditions, ensures GF can offer highly energy efficient pipe systems to help ensure optimum energy transfer performance in your cooling plant.

Value-Adding Plastic Pipes:

  • Low Pressure loss over 25 year design life-span. Plastic pipes show no corrosion associated with standard metallic pipes.
  • They also show no encrustation of the internal bore of the pipe, thanks to the smooth nature of the internal bore of plastic pipes. No calcium build up can take place to reduce the internal bore of the pipe.
  • Plastic pipes performance, in terms of pressure loss, remains virtually constant for more than 25 years thanks to this lack of corrosion and encrustation.
  • Low Thermal Conductivity (PE-100 = 0.38 W/m.K : Steel = 80 W/m.K). Plastics have a low thermal conductivity compared to metals. This very low energy transfer value makes plastic pipes ideal for piping system applications where energy is being transferred. The piping system in a Data Centers is effectively transfering energy from the chillers to the point of use or AHUs.
  • Pre-insulated quality insulated plastic pipe system COOL-FIT (Thermal Conductivity of Insulation 0.026 W/mK) - GF offers a complete plastic pre-insulated system. The insulation is manufactured under factory controlled conditions to a quality level impossible to achieve on-site. The extremely low thermal conductivity achieved with COOL-FIT (Lambda = 0.026 W/mK) improves the energy heat transfer of the piping system enormously.

  • for CHW (2 x Flow, 2 x return, 9.6m length each ~ 40m)
  • Flow Temp. = 6°C, Ambient = 24°C, Wind = 0.5m/s
  • COOL-FIT 4.0 d110/180 HDPE Jacket PUR factory foamed insulation with a Thermal Conductivity = 0.026 W/mK (λ) 
  • U (Heat Transfer Coefficient) = 0.28 W/mK

Compared to :

  • DN100 Steel pipe + 1" (26mm Rubber foam insulation) @ 0.38 W/mK (λ)
  • U = 0.5 W/mK (Heat Transfer Coefficient)
  • When using 1" (40mm Rubber foam insulation) @ 0.38 W/mK (λ) U = 0.372 W/mK
  • COOL-FIT is therefore +44% MORE EFFICIENT

GF offers a free of charge calculation tool to help engineers with a wide range of calculations necessary for the piping in a cooling plant.
